What
is the Managed Services Model?
Magia Software offers the Magia Business
Suite through a Managed Services model that
includes services beyond the software itself.
In addition to the Magia Business Suite,
we provide web hosting for your site, backup,
maintenance, server administration, and
instant upgrades and patches. This services
model results in greatly reduced costs for
both website developers and end users while
ensuring the best in site availability and
data integrity.
What
applications does the Magia Business Suite
include?
That's
a big question! There is a partial
list of the software and features included
in MBS below. You can also see what
applications are included in the system
by experiencing
a demo of the administration area. But,
by far the best way to truly appreciate
the benefits of MBS is to sign
up for instant setup of your own account.

I
can get alot of your functionality through
"free" software, why should I
pay for it?
That's
a great question! The term "free"
in free software only means there is no
upfront charge for the software. You
will still have plenty of costs associated
with it. For example:
- The
time spent finding, experimenting with,
and configuring the software (Your time
is worth something, isn't it?)
- The time spent integrating the software
with your website and any other applications
you want to use. If you pay someone
else to do this you can expect to pay
several thousand dollars.
- The time (or employee wages for the
time) needed to keep the software updated,
backup the data it generates, and otherwise
manage the system.
- Hosting fees to keep your website online.
A comparable web hosting account will be
about $25 a month. That reduces the
cost of our software to only $35 a month.
If you use "free" software
and don't spend at least that much in the
first three items from the list above you
are either the exception or, more likely,
you are not handling your company's information
system with the care it deserves.
What
about my security concerns?
Magia Software understands and shares your
security concerns. Below is a brief and
purposefully incomplete description of our
physical and electronic security measures.
Physical Security: An often
overlooked security concern is who actually
has access to the computer with the data
on it! When physical access to the computer
is available most software-based security
precautions can be rendered ineffective.
Our servers are located in locked cages,
in a room that is guarded 24/7/365 by
both security personnel and surveillance
cameras. Entering the server area requires
a visual inspection of your access badge
and passing certain biometric screenings.
Network Monitoring: Our
servers are monitored 24/7/365 by trained
professionals capable of stopping most
attacks in minutes.
Connection Security: Our
management area is protected by more than
the industry standard 128 bit “https”
secure-certificate security method. In
addition to https security we deploy a
comprehensive encryption system that protects
identifying information, making it virtually
impossible for outsiders to gain access
to our management area.
Redundancy: Our network
has a minimum N+1 redundancy level. This
means hardware and other vital pieces
are "backed up" in case of failure.
Backup Security: Data backups
are stored in a secure location about
1000 miles away from the data center.
This helps ensure data availability
in the event of a major natural disaster.
You would have to invest over $10,000 a
month to provide this level of security
in-house.
How
do I get the software?
Currently, our software is only available
through the Managed
Services Model. However, we are investigating
the creation of installable versions of
our software that could be purchased and
installed on your own servers. Contact
us if you are interested in installable
versions of our software.
Can
I use just part of the software?
Yes, you can use any combination of the
applications in the Magia Business Suite.
Additionally, you can start with a few applications
and add the others as the website and company
grow.
Is
it open source?
No. There are well over a million lines
of code contained in the 20+ applications
and our applications are integrated to work
seamlessly together. We feel that editing
done outside of the company would likely
result in broken versions that would harm
both Magia Software and the entities operating
through a broken version. However, we provide
customization services at very reasonable
prices so editing can be performed by people
familiar with the system.
What
about customization?
We receive two kinds of customization requests:
- Requests for new applications or functionality
that is unique to a particular client.
In this case we provide reasonably
priced customization services.
- Requests for new applications or functionality
that many clients would find beneficial.
In this case we will often build the requested
customization and make it available to
every client.
How
long should it take to build a website with
Magia Business Suite?
This depends on three variables: the complexity
of the website, the number of applications
being integrated, and the amount of experience
the developer has with Magia Business Suite.
Generally speaking, we expect that a developer
who is comfortable with the Magia Business
Suite should be able to completely integrate
it in a quarter of the time most competitive
products would take. This task becomes
much faster with familiarity. For
example, we can usually integrate every
MBS application into a new website design
in less than two hours.
Can
I add software into the Magia Business Suite?
Yes, it is possible. Magia Business Suite
is designed from the ground up for expansion.
Software that outside companies add to the
system come in three forms:
Software that is specific to a particular
website. After we examine the software and
find it to be safe, secure, and of good
quality we will generally allow it to be
integrated into that one website's management
area.
Software that a developer wants to offer
only to their clients. After we examine
the software and find it to be safe, secure,
and of good quality we will generally allow
it to be integrated into that developer's
websites.
Software that a developer wants to distribute
through the Magia Business Suite. In this
case the developer can be paid a one-time
license fee for each website that elects
to install their software. Software in this
category must pass rigorous security and
functionality tests before it can be integrated
into the system.
What
will Magia Software do next?
That depends on clients like you! Our
developers and end users provide valuable
feedback that helps us plan, prioritize,
and build applications that they want and
need.
